Galway Report

Gold Medal Equestrian riders travelled to Temecula for the Galway Downs International Horse Trials, held March 31 - April 2.  A recent Sandy Phillips clinic was an excellent prep for dressage, as many riders placed very well in this phase, with several scores in the low 20s.

Molly and Megan were the stars of the weekend, both winning their Novice divisions aboard newly imported horses.  Megan and "Bella Donna Z." finished on their dressage score of 25.7 while Molly and "Zero Gravity" maintained their lead through all 3 phases with a final score of 27.6. Congratulations!

Claire and her new import "Kirshblute 3" were impressive in their Preliminary debut together, finishing in 9th place in a competitive division.

Dusting off the cobwebs after a minor injury, Josey rode her own "Pistol Annie" in the CIC 1 star, while Susie rode her homebred ”Yvening Affair" in the Sr. Training Rider division.

Over a demanding CIC 2 star course, Gina Miles finished in 7th place with a double clear on "Othello,” owned by Tara Verkuil, which qualifies the pair for the CCI 2 star at Twin Rivers Spring Three-Day Event in April.

Liza Jane MacNaughton’s "Mystery Solved" maintained 3rd place with Gina aboard, finishing on his dressage score in Open Novice.

Young horses "Beamer" "Simba" and "Quinn" were impressed by the Galway cross-country course, finishing with increased confidence, while Julia Melmon’s "Envy Me" showed these youngsters how to jump a double-clear round.

Although not competing at this show, Taylor and "Philippa" worked hard with Megan to prepare for May Woodside.

Many thanks to "house parents" Laura and Keith Poch, owners Liza Jane and Nappy MacNaughton, Brent and Rene Beckwith, Jeff, Phoenix, Kelsey and Enrique for all their help and support.

We are all looking forward to Twin Rivers and Woodside!
